CAT Quant: The 6-Topic Plan to Cross 95 Percentile
By Prachi Priya Jha 10 June 2026
Where the marks really are in CAT Quant
You don't need every topic. A focused six-topic core covers the majority of a typical CAT QA section.
The six to master first
- Arithmetic (percentages, ratios, TSD, time-work) - the highest-yield area, appears everywhere.
- Number System - foundational, rewards practice.
- Algebra (equations, inequalities, functions).
- Geometry & Mensuration - formula-heavy but predictable.
- Modern Math (P&C, probability) - a few reliable question types.
- Logarithms & basics - quick wins when they appear.
How to study them
- Build the concept, then do 30-50 questions per topic before moving on.
- Maintain an error log - revisit wrong questions weekly.
- From week three, mix topics in timed 20-question sets to build selection skill (knowing which question to leave).
Bottom line: depth in six topics beats shallow coverage of twelve. Master selection - leaving the right 6-8 questions is how 95-percentilers score.
